We are excited to share the Y WA’s 2023-2024 Annual Report, an inspiring update on the second year of our Growth for Impact Strategy.
This year’s report, titled Impact for Children and Youth Flourishing, highlights the significant strides we’ve made toward ensuring that every child and young person we serve has the opportunity to flourish. As we continue on this transformative journey, we are proud to share the milestones, stories, and progress that are shaping the future of youth engagement and development.
A Journey of Growth and Impact
Since the Growth for Impact Strategy launched in 2022, each report has taken readers on a journey through different phases of this strategy, focusing on core themes that guide our work. Last year, our report centered around The Meaning of Impact and Impact in Action. This year, our focus shifts to Impact for Children and Youth Flourishing, an important milestone in our ongoing commitment to youth development.
The Flourishing Framework
At the heart of our work is the Positive Youth Development framework, known as the 5Cs Model, which plays a central role in our Youth Engagement and Education Services. The 5Cs—Competence, Connection, Character, Confidence, and Caring—are key qualities that, when nurtured, lead to a sixth C: Contribution. This final "C" represents the profound impact young people can have when they are empowered to contribute positively to their communities and society at large.
As part of the Growth for Impact Strategy, we are dedicated to cultivating these qualities in every young person we support. Through our programs, we strive to create environments where youth can build skills, develop meaningful relationships, strengthen their character, grow in confidence, and nurture a caring attitude toward others. These qualities not only benefit the individuals themselves but also have a ripple effect on their families, communities, and the broader society.
A Legacy of Contribution
The concept of Contribution is especially meaningful to us at the Y, as it reflects our long-standing heritage of empowering young people to make a positive difference. From our earliest days, the Y has been a place where youth have been encouraged to lead, serve, and engage in their communities. This spirit of service continues to shape our work, as we guide the next generation to become active, engaged citizens who contribute to the well-being of others.
Reflecting on Our Impact
In this year’s Annual Report, we showcase a range of inspiring stories from our programs, illustrating how the 5Cs framework is creating opportunities for youth to flourish. From mentoring and leadership programs to educational initiatives and community outreach, we are seeing firsthand the incredible transformations taking place within our youth community. As we move forward in the third year of our Growth for Impact Strategy, we remain committed to fostering youth flourishing in all its forms - whether that means supporting academic achievement, promoting mental and emotional well-being, or encouraging young people to take on leadership roles in their communities.
